"But the life of Willam Howard Taft teaches us one thing: if you want to be remembered by historians as president, don’t have your term fall in between those of two far more famous presidents."

Will LBJ and Bush Sr. become exceptions to that rule, or do you think people will forget about them over time?

I'm one of the few Americans, apparently, who has bothered to visit the Taft House in Cincinnati. If I recall, the National Park Service stats show it to be among the least-visited national park properties in the nation, along with the ones in remote areas that don't have roads leading to them.

The link is supposed to open a video from C-SPAN. You may not have the plug-in for it. It's an earnest guy from the VA telling people that nearly everyone who goes to Arlington goes to see the Kennedy family grave.

I've been to see the Taft grave at Arlington!! It is somewhat surprisingly taller than it is wide. And that's about all there is today about it (except that i don't think your photo link goes to anything)...

"Almost nothing went write for Taft during the campaign"

I wasn't going to bring it up but it seems to be appropriate given the first comment.

I've recently been corresponding with a Dean Dean. (Dean of a university department.) His first name is, alas, Tony. If he were American, not English, perhaps his parents might have been inspired to give him Dean also as a first name. Then he'd be Dean Dean Dean.

You should have seen that sentence before that. It was missing three words. I got it down to just one.

And she sensed that William Taft was someone who could bring up to the highest circles of power, even the White House.

Bring what up to the highest circles of power? Someone she could bring up to the highest circles of power (i.e. she engineered his rise)? I suspect you meant "someone who could rise to...".
